Net neutrality has allowed broad access to the internet and all that comes with it, including enjoying non-discriminatory features like speed, bandwidth, etc. The Federal Communication Commission is currently pushing a plan that benefits big service providers and undercuts the average consumer’s access to the internet. The plan contains a control of the internet that is opposite from the open market, competitive system we have now. For example, companies will have to pay for their sites to be found online at faster speeds and consumers will have to pay to get access to certain sites if that site is available at all. Those costs will be passed on to consumers like us affecting sites and people from small businesses to the activist community. The negative impact will hit Black and other communities of color hard. Internet service providers like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon will be in control of what you see online and how fast you can get to it! Call, email, and Tweet your representatives to let them know you want them to support net neutrality and to oppose the proposed FCC changes.
