No Excuse for Forgetting Black St. Louis, a commentary by Jamala Rogers and Walter Johnson.
Many enlightened observers were taken aback when they saw the ribbon-cutting ceremony to reopen the renovated St. Louis Gateway Arch Park. There was nary a Black face in the place. No elected officials, no community leaders, no business or faith leaders. Human rights activist Percy Green was not invited, his lack of an invite is always an oversight on the part of event organizers.Green and fellow ACTION member Richard Daly climbed the unfinished leg of the St. Louis Arch in 1964 during construction to protest to the lack of Black workers on the federal project. The white power structure continues their white supremacy strategy–trump’s white house to krewson’s city hall. #Archsowhite
